Address
Bazel (Koningin Astridplein 17) and Kruibeke (Scheldelei), Belgium. (Free)
The Place
Bazel has been nominated as one of the most beautiful villages of Flanders. Discover why. Walk across the village square (Dorpsplein) to the castle at the water (Wissekerke). Take your time to enjoy the peace and calm of land and river at the high ‘Scheldedijk’. Which goal do you still have in your life? Go to the pond in the park and stand before the charming suspension bridge. Which steps can you take to go from the present to the imagined situation? Imagine yourself taking these steps while crossing the bridge. How do you feel at the other side?
The Tip
Set yourself now a more important goal in the long-term. How would you feel when you have reached that goal? Try to imagine this as concrete as possible. Now take the (free) ferry at the ‘Scheldelei’ in Kruibeke. The ferryman crosses the river every hour and every half hour between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. (on weekdays even till 11.30 p.m.). He only takes a break at 12.30 p.m. Join him to the other side. Go and sit there. Enjoy the mental crossing. Afterwards you take the ferry back. Which skills are you going to use to reach your goal? Which ferryman in your life can you ask for help?
Pillars of happiness
action, freedom, goals, personal choicesExtra
In Bazel you find the excellent restaurant ‘De Eenhoorn’ (Koningin Astridplein 20). It was the historic chair of the Court of Justice ‘De Vierschaar’. In Kruibeke you find the local pub after a fifteen minutes’ walk: ‘De Voermansrust bij Roos Pap’ (Hollestraat 131). The pub has been there for more than 200 years. There is an old stove in the middle and playing cards is the favourite activity here. And you will probably find someone who wants to talk to you.
